“We’re disappointed, but not surprised” by the vote, said Kyla Bennett, science policy director with Public Employees for Environmental Responsibility (PEER), which is assisting the IAFF with legal and scientific advice.  

She said the 2006 standard – examining how moisture barrier materials in the ‘middle layer’ of turnout gear stand up to degradation from ultraviolet light – is “meaningless” and does nothing for firefighters.’
