“Last month, Public Employees for Environmental Responsibility asked Interior’s inspector general to probe the agency’s use of temporary or acting directors and whether it had violated the Federal Vacancies Reform Act, possibly making decisions invalid (Greenwire, Feb. 12). Interior’s inspector general said in a Feb. 23 letter made public today that those three officials do not have official “acting” titles and appear to be complying with the act. ”
