“The new law banning the burning of fire foam is a great step to avoid the hazards of PFAS chemicals, but now it’s time to address the Dunn Landfill in Rensselaer.
The state Department of Environmental Conservation has not responded to the potential presence of PFAS in leachate from the landfill. DEC was informed of the presence of PFAS in nearby waterways in March after testing by Rensselaer Environmental Coalition and Public Employees for Environmental Responsibility. These results have been at DEC for months, but nothing has been revealed to the public except what was disclosed in the coalition’s report.”
