Some groups argue that EPA’s definition of PFAS is too narrow. One of these groups, the Public Employees for Environmental Responsibility (PEER), filed a lawsuit against EPA in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia claiming that the agency is “withholding documents explaining why [EPA] has adopted an exceedingly limited definition of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS).”
