“It is the height of hypocrisy for EPA to pretend these chemicals are no longer being manufactured when they are permeating our chain of commerce,” said Kyla Bennett, science policy director at Public Employees for Environmental Responsibility (PEER), in an Oct. 29 press release accompanying the group’s Information Quality Act (IQA) petition.
“EPA’s conflicted position epitomizes an approach to PFAS control that is both irresolute and irresponsible.”
The group on Oct. 29 submitted to EPA under the IQA that urges the agency to withdraw two statements contained in Q&A fact sheets on EPA’s website that claim that the domestic production and import of PFOA has been phased out through the voluntary PFOA Stewardship Program.
