In the past week, PEER has been flooded with questions from public employees who are trying to do their work through the chaos of firings and threatened firings, transfers, telework and remote work changes, personal attacks, and other efforts to coerce them to quit government service.
This chaos is part of the administration’s efforts to knock opponents off balance by rolling out an unceasing flow of initiatives. Every one of the initiatives I have examined appears to be illegal and the work of billionaire Elon Musk, who is looking to further enrich himself, or a band of small government warriors whose stated goal is to create an imperial presidency.
Here is some of PEER’s work to challenge these illegal actions.
- Suing President Trump to stop his illegal efforts to politicize the civil service.
- Pushing back against the legality of putting employees on leave who work on diversity and environmental justice issues and advising public employees on the risks of accepting the administration’s deferred resignation program. Because these efforts appear to be illegal, we are laying the groundwork for possible future lawsuits on these issues.
- Demanding that Lee Zeldin, the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) administrator, reveal the agency’s ties to Elon Musk and efforts by Musk to access EPA’s databases.
We are working around the clock to keep up with the challenges public employees are facing and to challenge the onslaught of illegal activities by the Musk-Trump Confederacy.

Tim Whitehouse
