We are suingโagainโto stop the administration from returning the U.S. to the spoils system of corrupt government that dominated the country over a century ago.
One year into the Trump administration, we are not letting down our guard.
Yesterday, PEER and a coalition of unionsโincluding the American Federation of Government Employees and the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employeesโfiled a consolidated and updated legal challenge to the Trump-Vance administrationโs effort to unlawfully convert potentially tens of thousands of merit-based, nonpartisan civil servants to at-will employees.
Democracy Forward and Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington are representing us in the lawsuit PEER et al v. Trump et al.
This administration is already engaging in a wholesale purge of public employees that it views as ideologically suspect. This new final rule would make it even easier for political appointees to fire a whole new class of civil servants without cause.
We are fighting because a nonpartisan civil service is key to protecting our public lands and the environment and to stopping the wholesale grift occurring in Washington right now.
Thank you for being with us at this critical moment.
Sincerely,
Tim Whitehouse
