Carolyn McConnell, a Seattle-based attorney for the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB), filed a lawsuit on March 12 against the federal government, alleging that it unfairly punished her for First Amendment-protected activity she conducted during her free time. The suit was filed through Public Employees for Environmental Responsibility, an organization that protects civil servants engaged in environmental ethics advocacy.
The NLRB is responsible for regulating private sector unions in the U.S.; it also adjudicates union-related disputes between employers and employees.
