On Wednesday, the council heard from PaddleHeads leadership, officials from the artificial turf company and an environmental expert from the nonprofit Public Employees for Environmental Responsibility (PEER).
Kyla Bennett, the director of scientific policy for PEER, told the council there is no safe artificial turf concept and disputed some information from the PaddleHeads regarding the safety of the turf.
“PFAS from this turf will contaminate both the aquifer and the river,” Bennett, a former Environmental Protect Agency official, said. “PFAS can travel vertically in soil 400 feet or more.”
