The Federal Records Act (FRA), the Data Quality Act, and other laws provide the legal framework for federal records management and for ensuring the quality, objectivity and integrity of information used the agencies in making decisions. PEER uses these laws to challenge the failure of federal agencies to adequately document, policies, decisions, and transactions, and to challenge these agencies when they misrepresent data. Federal agencies that fail to follow these laws are often trying to avoid public scrutiny of decision-making processes and undermine protections for public health, the environment, and natural resources.
