“Interior Secretary David Bernhardt has extended the tenure of William Perry Pendley as acting chief of the Bureau of Land Management for another 30 days despite a threat from advocacy groups to challenge the appointment in federal court.
In addition to Pendley, Bernhardt’s amended secretarial order issued today also extends the term of David Vela as “exercising the authority of director” of the National Park Service through June 5.
But this time, two advocacy groups — Public Employees for Environmental Responsibility and the Western Watersheds Project — have vowed to file a federal lawsuit, claiming the appointments of Pendley and Vela violate federal law.”
