Environmental advocates have asked the US EPA to require manufacturers to inspect all Fifra-registered goods for PFASs and then prohibit those containing the persistent compounds.
The 26 September letter from Public Employees for Environmental Responsibility (PEER) comes amid increasing regulatory attention on PFAS-containing pesticides, stemming from the group’s 2020 discovery of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances in mosquitocides stored in fluorinated plastic barrels. The organisation’s latest effort follows an EPA proposal to eliminate a dozen PFASs from the approved inert pesticide ingredient list.
