I’m excited to invite you to join us on September 24th at 1pm ET for a fascinating webinar, Saving Farmland: Battling Toxic PFAS in Biosolids in Texas and Beyond. In this webinar, Johnson County, Texas officials will join PEER staff to discuss how toxic PFAS contamination in biosolids is destroying the livelihoods of farmers and ranchers in Johnson County, Texas.
We will also discuss PEER’s lawsuit against the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) on behalf of farmers and ranchers in Johnson County, Johnson County itself, the Maine Organic Farmers and Gardner’s Association, and the Potomac Riverkeeper Network. The goal of this lawsuit is to require EPA to regulate the land application of sewage sludge contaminated with toxic PFAS chemicals as required under the Clean Water Act (CWA).
In a shockingly irresponsible move, EPA is attempting to get this lawsuit dismissed and duck all responsibility to protect public health from contaminated sewage sludge fertilizers under the CWA. This is a really important issue both in Texas and nationally. Want to learn more? Watch this 5 minute video as James Farmer and Robin Alessi discuss with PEER’s Laura Dumais how PFAS contamination has ruined their ranching operation in Texas and why EPA must act on this issue.
Want to help? Please sign our petition in support of farmers and ranchers in Johnson County, Texas.
Thank you for engaging with us on this important issue.
Sincerely,
Tim Whitehouse
Executive Director
