Report Summary
The National Park Service (NPS) plays an important role in preserving the country’s greatest natural and cultural resources and has significant influence in environmental stewardship activities across the country.
In June 2023, NPS published its Plastics Elimination and Reduction Plan. The Plan sets a goal of achieving 100% elimination of single-use plastics by 2032.[1] Additionally, the Save Our Seas 2.0 Act (Public Law 116–224), provides a target of diverting 50% of all non-hazardous solid waste, including construction/demolition, food, and other waste by 2025 and 75% by 2030.[2]
The purpose of this scorecard is to help spur the agency to move faster on these goals by highlighting those parks that are making great progress in this effort and pointing out those that need to make improvements.
