A spokesman for GAO confirmed to ME the agency launched an investigation in October but added the “final scope of what we will cover and methodology to be used has not be determined yet.” The Hill first reported the investigation. The final report is not expected until at least the fall, the spokesman added. But EPA’s enforcement numbers garnered renewed focus Tuesday after Public Employees for Environmental Responsibility released data showing EPA hit a 30-year low last year in the number of pollution cases it referred for criminal prosecution.”
