We are writing in regard to Jerry Meral’s recently published Marin Voice commentary (“Lack of income is pushing Point Reyes National Seashore into disrepair,” April 25).
Meral writes that the Seashore is “deteriorating due to lack of funds.” The lack of funds, in part, comes from the park service lease amounts to the private cattle operations. On Feb. 13, the Public Employees for Environmental Responsibility published research showing that it is asking only half regional market value for rent. That’s a public subsidy.
