The nonprofit says the administration has made progress in fixing agency-wide problems, but there is plenty of room for improvement, particularly in the area of climate change.
“Oil and gas leasing on public lands contributes to greenhouse gasses, emissions, and also the livestock grazing program, contributes to the climate problem, and has not been addressed by the agency yet,” said Chandra Rosenthal, a spokeswoman for PEER.
The report says the BLM has made progress in plugging abandoned gas wells, another significant source of greenhouse emissions.
